Editorial

This year at Offset, there has been a change in the wind. Expanding the journal’s content and beginning a new chapter of work, we have been tremendously privileged to build upon the great foundations that have been laid before us; from its inception as a literary journal to the fully fledged, multi-platform entity you see before you.
We’re so thrilled to set in motion our venture into e-publishing, with the beginning of Offset as an Open Access online journal. For the first time, this journal can be accessed from all over the world, enabling Offset to be used as an academic tool for inspiration and learning beyond the walls of Victoria University.
From the first colour artworks that graced the pages of Offset 2005 to the introduction of the DVD and CD in 2009, we have re-introduced the disk components and have continued to encourage submissions from languages other than English, celebrating the dynamic and culturally rich content that all our contributors bring.
This issue as with all before it, would not have been produced if it weren’t for our four fabulous sponsors, who widely spread the word and who, each year, continue to lend their time to us and keep the vessel that is Offset, buoyant.
Offset is a unique journal. Student-run and fuelled by the passions of tireless creative people—the people who submit their work to Offset. Without these contributors, we wouldn’t be what we are today. So we would like to thank the submitters, for their incredible efforts in 2014.
We really believe that Offset is setting the standard for beautiful publications; surrounding the brilliant content, is beautiful construction.

We want this version of Offset to be a work of art in itself and to promote the printed book with an ongoing message of timelessness. The physicality of a collection of printed work—its texture, scent and aesthetic, offers an immersive experience. We want to encourage that immersion in publications like Offset, as we have produced an entertainment package that will hopefully continue to surprise and delight you for years to come in both printed and digital forms.
Nestled firmly in this collection of work are our three feature contributors, who we are so proud to have with us, as established and emerging artists in their own right. We hope that the work of our feature writer Van Badham moves and excites you; that our feature artist Ted Takeshi Doré’s images transport you and that our feature musician, Ma Petite’s music, enchants your ears long after you’ve stopped listening. Conclusively, we hope that you are captivated, challenged, pleasantly occupied and fulfilled with this edition of Offset 2014.

Happy reading, viewing and listening!

The Offset Team 2014.
